Early Blue Violet (Viola palmata)

The early blue violet is often the first of the native violets to bloom, and has the largest flowers. Its leaves can be entire (unlobed) or divided into five to seven lobes. Like most North American violets, it produces taller showy sterile flowers (shown above) followed by shorter inconspicuous fertile flowers. Early blue violet is listed as FACW by the FDEP and as FAC+ by the NWI.
